After the success of last year’s inaugural event, it’s time for the second edition of the JazzPrix talent competition — once again presented by the creators of the Jazz an der Donau festival, the Bohemia JazzFest and EUREGIO. Young musicians from both Germany and the Czech Republic are eligible, with a prize of 10,000 euros awaiting the winner. The closing date for entries is the 29th October 2010
Like the inaugural event last year, the 2010 edition of the JazzPrix bilateral talent contest represents a great opportunity for young bands from Germany and the Czech Republic — the average age of the band must be 25 or under — to raise their profile to an international level and at the same time ease their financial woes… The JazzPrix contest is an initiative of the Czech jazz festival Bohemia JazzFest and the organizers of the Jazz an der Donau festival and is supported by EUREGIO. The stated aim of the initiative is to support and encourage cultural exchange between Germany and the Czech Republic.
Musicians and bands of all jazz genres are invited to submit their applications to snapshot Redaktionsbüro on or before the 29th October 2010. Acts, to be eligible, must be unbound by any recording contract (details attached) and have an average age of 25 or less. The ten finalists will be selected by a high-quality jury.
As well as a chance to play before a large audience and the prospect of a great deal of media publicity, the competition offers lucrative prizes: 10,000 euros for the ensemble taking first place, and 3,000 euros for the runners-up. The value of the JazzPrix competition as a springboard to success is demonstrated by the fact that last year’s winners, the Heiko Fischer Quartet, were invited to perform at the 2010 edition of the renowned Jazz an der Donau (Jazz on the Danube) festival.
“JazzPrix represents a cultural exchange with our neighbours in the Czech Republic,” says Ralph Huber, Vice Chairman of Jazz an der Donau e.V. “But as well as the cultural value of the contest, there is a further argument: Music is a universal language that brings people together.” Through JazzPrix, the organizers of the Jazz an der Donau festival are maintaining their long tradition of encouraging new talent, which dates back to 1999 when they launched the “New Generation” contest. “Last year’s winners, the Heiko Fischer Quartet, were musicians of exceptional quality,” says Heinz Huber, Jazz an der Donau e.V.‘s Principle Executive Director. “This year, too, we are expecting first-class participants.”
